Electronic Chart Product Manager
Overview
The Electronic Chart Product Manager will lead the development of the clinician-facing electronic medical record aspect of the athenaClinicals service. This individual will be responsible for executing and delivering in accordance with the athenaClinicals product roadmap and managing the athenaClinicals release cycle in conjunction with the development team. The role’s scope of responsibilities includes creating the requirements and functional design for the electronic chart, progress note creation, order entry, and other clinician-facing functionality. The position is also responsible for coordinating across the product team the delivery of specialty specific functionality by working with our physician workgroup and internal domain experts. Scope also includes providing project management support to other members of the product team to facilitate meeting release cycle milestones. One of the primary design goals is to maintain and improve clinician efficiency while also providing the necessary richness for expressing clinical observations in a compliant fashion. As a member of the product management team, the product manager will contribute to the overall direction of athenaClinicals and provide input on prioritization and business value of candidate projects.
The Electronic Chart Product Manager will report to the Director, Clinicals Product Management.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Detailed design responsibility for clinician-facing chart functionality and workflow
• Working with customers, consultants, and athenahealth employees to define and document electronic chart requirements;
• Project management of the athenaClinicals release cycle, including hitting milestones and working with other product managers to ensure that their projects are on track;
• Working closely with the Director of Clinicals Product Management to ensure that the design of the chart meshes with the overall vision for the athenaClinicals service (software + knowledge + back office work integrated into a single service = consistent and significant results) and to achieve athenaClinicals’s targeted business objectives
• Leveraging the diverse talents of the team to maximize work capacity and effectiveness, and collaborating fluidly with other members of the team as needed to meet objectives;
• With other team members, contributing to the athenaClinicals product roadmap and executing in accordance with that roadmap
• Developing metrics and benchmarks for the efficiency and quality of charting related tasks using the platform –- aligning development priorities with continuous improvement;
• Achieving measurable results with respect to maintenance and improvement of physician productivity through the use of athenaClinicals;
• Managing the athenaClinicals release process on a day to day basis, making sure milestones are met;
• Prioritizing client feedback on the electronic chart and managing the client issue queue on a day to day basis;
• Demonstrating a passion for the service-based approach of athenaClinicals;
• Contributing to the development of implementation methodologies and direct work with beta clients and beyond;
• Other tasks as requested by the Director, Clinicals Product Management.
Specification deliverables include but are not limited to:
• Design of product and platform features and functions;
• Development of use and business cases;
• Development of demo scripts;
• Development of training materials;
• ROI mapping and analysis;
• Identification of third party tools;
• Distillation of clinician workflow requirements;
• Identification of regulatory considerations/requirements;
Qualifications
Specific Qualifications for the Electronic Chart Product Manager:
• Proven track record in the detailed design and development of commercially viable applications and/or services including the software development lifecycle;
• Proven track record in human-computer interaction and the design of efficient, high quality user interfaces for complex tasks. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to envision, design and implement efficient workflow solutions;
• Experience interacting with clinical staff in ambulatory settings including physicians, advanced degree nursing staff and ancillary staff.
• High degree of flexibility and organization;
• Experience in a high volume operational services setting (for example, large scale data entry, or document processing) with experience in operational metrics and/or statistical process control or Six Sigma a plus;
• Strongly collaborative personality and track record of working successfully with teams as a leader and as an individual contributor;
• Knowledge of medical practice management, operational processes and the software systems that support such operations within the context of clinical and billing processes;
• Knowledge of established and evolving industry standards associated with data representations and interoperability;
• Ability to develop business cases and write business requirements documents to communicate business need and justify investments in new product ideas;
• Ability to analyze and prioritize opportunities and take decisive action;
• Demonstrated people leadership skills and desire to teach and learn coupled with an entrepreneurial mind set;
• Demonstrated superior problem solving and project management skills and ability to drive to problem root causes;
• Excellent communication skills, including listening, writing and relationship building;
• Ability to keep track of numerous detail-intensive tasks and ensure their completion and accuracy.
